Kickboxing is one of the most dynamic of combat sports, remember â" so you need to be prepared.As a casual kickboxer, your boxing training studio or gym will most likely supply most of the equipment for you. Yet, if you are going often, you donât really want to be using for too long a boxing glove thatâs been passed around a thousand people. And then think about sharing the boxing shoes, the ankle support, and â" God forbid â" the mouthguard. Letâs not actually think about that.Anyway, at some point, you are going to want to be buying your own training gear. Whilst it is an expense, it is just, simply easier. Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and savate (French kickboxing) all have very different requirements, different levels of contact, and different conventions. So, it is worth being clear on which you will be doing before going ahead and buying the whole lot.For example, a lot of stuff is going to change if you are doing kickboxing in a cardio-fitness class rather than Muay Thai. In the former case, you arenât going to need a mouth guard, because no-one really should be punching you in the face at all.Meanwhile, if you are going to into a Muay Thai competition, you will need to consider the obligatory fightwear that Muay Thai fighters wear. This is a convention that you donât need to follow in your home gym â" but is necessary when you are participating i n official bouts.So, think about all this quite clearly. You donât want to end up with savate footwear when you simply donât need it. Here are some of the essential things youâll need when you are kick boxing â" both for protection and for fitness.Gloves.The iconic and essential boxing gear: the gloves. Lightweight MMA gloves or the rounded leather gloves, effective handwear is absolutely essential for all boxers â" for the sake of your hands and for the sake of your opponentâs face.This stands for those using punching bags as well as those who are sparring. Donât bother with bag gloves: whilst these are more lightweight â" as they have less padding â" if you ever want to level up to proper competitive bouts, youâll need the real thing. Get them in fourteen- or sixteen-ounce sizes.You donât need specific Muay Thai gloves: these sizes will do for sparring gloves and training gloves in both kickboxing and Muay Thai.Mitts.Mitts â" or focus mitts â" are the pads that, whilst training, will protect your pa rtnerâs or coachâs hands from your punches. Whilst you wonât benefit from them yourself â" unless you are swapping the puncher and the trainer â" they are all-important. And they will make your training more effective.Whoever wears the mitts will call out combinations and return some pressure to your punch or kick.Hand Wraps.Youâre wearing your kickboxing gloves. Thatâs all good. But when taking boxing very seriously â" and doing it a lot â" you may want to consider handwraps.These you wear beneath your gloves, and they provide compression, security, and stability to the muscles and tissue in your hands. They provide extra protection, essentially â" and a harder hit to your opponent.In Muay Thai, you may have noticed that fighters wrap their hands in rope. Whilst different regions do this differently, the main aim is, again, protection. It will cover your hand and knuckles, give wrist support, and, sometimes, even extend to your elbow.Check out some of the world champ ions of kickboxing. The right kickboxing equipment is essentially for your own safety tooBody Armour: Shin Guards and Head Guards.Body armour sounds a little intimidating. But, remember, in kickboxing, you are fighting â" and, in fights, people get hurt.The point in protective guards is to prevent more serious injury than is absolutely necessary. (In Muay Thai, the aim is to knock your opponent out, so injury to some extent is inevitable.) Thatâs why protection is usually used for particular pain points: the head and the shins.Your headgear will protect your temples and forehead, primarily. For styles like American kickboxing, in which low kicks are forbidden, you will expect kicks to the head â" and itâs worth having something there between you and your skull.Meanwhile, in styles like savate, shinguards are fairly indispensable â" as low kicks can go straight to an extremely painful area.Talking of extremely painful areas, guys, get a groin protector too.Mouth Guards.A must in your sparring gear , a mouthguard or gum shield will prevent a tinkling of teeth to the floor after a wallop in the mush.Itâs fairly self-explanatory this one â" but as important as all the rest.Remember, if you are not intending to do fights, then all of this stuff is superfluous. A punch bag wonât punch back.Foot Guards.In kickboxing, youâll be striking your feet constantly. And, to ensure that you are protected from the force of your own strength, it is important that you take care to wear the correct foot protection.Kickboxing foot guards give support to your muscles, tendons, your little bones in your toes, and your ankles â" and they wonât obstruct your footwork at all.If you are doing savate, youâll need some special shoes for this style. There are quite strict rules from the presiding body, so it is important that you take care: no hard bits, no parts that can snag on an opponentâs clothes. In savate, the shoes are your main weapon, so make sure they are comfortable.Learn about t he kickboxing rules here!Clothing.When kickboxing, the chances are that you are going to get really hot and sweaty. So effective sports clothing is preferable â" if not essential.You want clothes with some breathability â" as well as boxing shorts that are not too baggy. The simple derivative of a function f with respect to a variable x is denoted either f(x) or (df)/(dx).(1) It is often written in-line as df/dx. 4 Reasons to Broaden Your Vocabulary - TutorNerds Tips from an Orange County Writing Tutor: 4 reasons to broaden your vocabulary Whether students are in elementary school or preparing for their SATs, they will benefit from a broad and varied vocabulary. Many students are marked down because they use the same two adjectives over and over again in a research paper or struggle with reading comprehension because there are too many words they dont recognize. By the time students get into the upper grades its important they understand how to recognize different types of words, can tell the difference between positive, negative and neutral connotations, and understand different types of jargon. These skills will be helpful as a K-12 student, but they will become essential when students go out into the world to focus on college and career. 1. One word at a time When students are assigned 20 or 30 new terms at a time, they tend to learn almost none of them. Learning new words is just like learning peoples names; its easy to remember one new person but meeting 20 people at once usually results in disaster. Its the same with vocabulary so students should focus on learning one word at a time and learning it well. They should be able to understand when its appropriate to use a particular word, be able to use it in their sentence, and know whether the word has a positive or negative connotation. 2. Words in context Its also important for students to be able to recognize words in context. A new word can have very different meanings depending on the other words around it. Is the term used sarcastically by a character in a novel? Is it meant as an insult or compliment when said out loud? Students need to know how to use words in their own spoken context as well as in their writing so that what they are trying to communicate makes sense (READ: Fullerton AP Tutoring Tips: 5 Ways to Ace AP World History). 3. Test prep vocabulary Nearly every college prep student dreads the thought of studying their SAT or ACT vocabulary. Thats because its pretty boring to memorize a list of new words. However, students can learn new words and understand how theyre meant to be used if they learn just a few words at a time and have a chance to be able to confidently use these words in their writing before they have a new set of words to focus on. This means they should start with their vocabulary study well in advance of their test date. 4. Effective communication Effective communication is required at every stage of learning and becomes essential when students get out into the workforce. They need to be able to recognize what people mean by what they say, essentially reading in between the lines. Students need to be able to understand what somebody is asking of them and also understand how to ask questions themselves effectively.
